A "Redline" Hot Wheels is a model that was made within the first ten years of production: 1968 to 1977. The term "redline" is a term of affection that collectors have given to early Hot Wheels and the fact that the cars were produced with a red stripe on the tire during that period.

Sweet sixteen

The first sixteen Hot Wheels models were: Beatnik Bandit, Deora, Ford J-car, Hot Heap, Python, Silhouette and the Custom line: Barracuda, Camaro, Corvette, Cougar, Eldorado, Firebird, Fleetside, Mustang, T-Bird, Volkswagen.

In 1977, the 'Redline Wheel' was phased out, with the red lines no longer being printed on the wheels.
